What is a dermal filler?

A dermal filler is a product injected into target areas such as the cheeks, around the mouth, or lips, anywhere additional volume is needed for correction or enhancement. Since they are eventually absorbed by the body, the effects of dermal fillers are temporary and can last for anywhere from six months to a year.

Are dermal fillers safe?

Dermal fillers are considered a non-surgical, minimally invasive skin rejuvenation treatment. At Femme, we use only FDA approved fillers. Since every patient is different, we’ll make sure to work with you to create a customized treatment plan that works for your skin and expectations.

What are hyaluronic acid dermal fillers?

Fillers such as Juvéderm Voluma, Juvéderm Volbella, and Revanesse Versa are fillers made from hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance that is found within the body. It may be produced by bacteria and purified for use as injectable soft tissue filler in order to correct the appearance of facial wrinkles and creases, (nasolabial folds). The product is approved for use in the U.S. by the Food and Drug Administration for the cosmetic treatment of facial wrinkles and creases. Hyaluronic acid’s plumping and firming qualities can take care of those problematic forehead rows, vertical frown lines between your brows, crow’s feet or laugh-lines, and smile or marionette lines running from your nose to the corners of your mouth.

Who is an ideal candidate for fillers?

The ideal candidates for Juvéderm Voluma, Juvéderm Volbella, and Revanesse Versa injectable treatments are women and men who have facial wrinkles and lines they want to improve. It can also help if you have naturally thin or age-related volume loss in your cheeks or lips.

What does an injectable filler procedure entail?

Dermal filler injections commonly only take about 15 – 30 minutes, depending on how many areas are being addressed. We start the process by cleaning your face, followed by selecting and marking spots for injection. Dermal fillers formulas often contain a local anesthetic (lidocaine) to decrease discomfort during the procedure. For 24 hours after your procedure we recommend avoiding strenuous activity such as exercise. You should be careful to not touch your face after your dermal filler injections to avoid pushing the filler into unwanted areas.

What can I expect from hyaluronic acid dermal fillers?

It's common for people to see a noticeable improvement immediately after receiving a dermal filler injection. However mild swelling and bruising may also be noted in the treated area for up to 10 days. The results of Juvéderm Voluma, Juvéderm Volbella, and Revanesse Versa treatments usually can be seen for up to one year and has been known to last longer after receiving 2 – 3 years worth of treatments.

To help in aging gracefully and to prevent facial wrinkles and lines from forming on the top portion of the face, Femme Next Generation Women’s Care in Thousand Oaks, CA is pleased to offer BOTOX.<

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX is made up of a neurotoxin called Botulinum. Once injected, Botulinum prevents the production of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a chemical messenger that is released right in the junction where the muscle cells meet the nerve ending by the nerves so that muscles can contract. By preventing the production of acetylcholine, BOTOX essentially prevents the muscles from contracting, thereby preventing wrinkles from forming.

Who is an ideal candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX is great for patients who wish to soften the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles on their face without surgery. BOTOX can also be used as a preventive treatment even if you do not show signs of aging. It is most commonly used for forehead lines, parallel lines between the brows, or for lines around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a filler product may be more suitable. Here are some other ways in which BOTOX can be used:

  • Lift the tip of your nose
  • Tighten jowls
  • Reduce excess sweating
  • Rejuvenate the decolletage

What does a BOTOX procedure entail?

BOTOX treatments are performed as an outpatient procedure and typically take about 10-15 minutes, depending on how many areas are being addressed.  We start the process by cleaning your face, followed by having you make various facial expressions using the upper face, such as squinting and frowning. This allows us to mark where injections should be placed during the procedure. BOTOX will subsequently be applied with a fine needle, followed by a cold compress to help decrease discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally is unnecessary. After the procedure, you may get back to your typical routine, but strenuous activity should be skipped for at least one day. You will be asked to sleep with your head elevated for the first night and to not touch your face, which may accidentally spread the treatment to other areas.

What can I expect from BOTOX?

The treated areas of the face may appear bruised, red, or swollen for 2 – 3 days, but you will not develop any severe or lasting side effects. In many cases, it takes about 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX can be seen. The results usually last 3 – 4 months.

What's the difference between BOTOX and dermal fillers?

Wrinkle relaxers (like BOTOX) and wrinkle fillers (like Juvéderm and Revaness Versa) are both treatments that reduce wrinkles and smooth fine lines. BOTOX relaxes overused facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, like frown lines (between the eyebrows), Crow's feet (in the outer corners of the eyes), forehead wrinkles, and smile lines. Injectable fillers add volume under the skin to correct hollow areas and decrease static wrinkles.
