To help in aging gracefully and to prevent facial wrinkles and lines from forming on the top portion of the face, Femme Next Generation Women’s Care in Thousand Oaks, CA is pleased to offer BOTOX.

What is BOTOX?

BOTOX is made up of a neurotoxin called Botulinum. Once injected, Botulinum prevents the production of a neurotransmitter called acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a chemical messenger that is released right in the junction where the muscle cells meet the nerve ending by the nerves so that muscles can contract. By preventing the production of acetylcholine, BOTOX essentially prevents the muscles from contracting, thereby preventing wrinkles from forming.

Who is an ideal candidate for BOTOX?

BOTOX is great for patients who wish to soften the appearance of dynamic lines and wrinkles on their face without surgery. BOTOX can also be used as a preventive treatment even if you do not show signs of aging. It is most commonly used for forehead lines, parallel lines between the brows, or for lines around the eyes. If you have deeper lines, a filler product may be more suitable. Here are some other ways in which BOTOX can be used:

  • Lift the tip of your nose
  • Tighten jowls
  • Reduce excess sweating
  • Rejuvenate the decolletage

What does a BOTOX procedure entail?

BOTOX treatments are performed as an outpatient procedure and typically take about 10-15 minutes, depending on how many areas are being addressed.  We start the process by cleaning your face, followed by having you make various facial expressions using the upper face, such as squinting and frowning. This allows us to mark where injections should be placed during the procedure. BOTOX will subsequently be applied with a fine needle, followed by a cold compress to help decrease discomfort, swelling, and bruising. You can request a numbing cream to make the procedure more comfortable, but it generally is unnecessary. After the procedure, you may get back to your typical routine, but strenuous activity should be skipped for at least one day. You will be asked to sleep with your head elevated for the first night and to not touch your face, which may accidentally spread the treatment to other areas.

What can I expect from BOTOX?

The treated areas of the face may appear bruised, red, or swollen for 2 – 3 days, but you will not develop any severe or lasting side effects. In many cases, it takes about 5 – 7 days before the full effects of BOTOX can be seen. The results usually last 3 – 4 months.

What's the difference between BOTOX and dermal fillers?

Wrinkle relaxers (like BOTOX) and wrinkle fillers (like Juvéderm and Revaness Versa) are both treatments that reduce wrinkles and smooth fine lines. BOTOX relaxes overused facial muscles that cause dynamic wrinkles, like frown lines (between the eyebrows), Crow's feet (in the outer corners of the eyes), forehead wrinkles, and smile lines. Injectable fillers add volume under the skin to correct hollow areas and decrease static wrinkles.

What are the alternatives to BOTOX?

BOTOX is the first FDA-approved cosmetic injectable on the market. Over recent years, other options like Juveau, Xeomin, and Dysport came into play. Each of these injectables has the active ingredient botulinum toxin type A, but with different trace proteins. This can make one more effective than another at addressing your specific concerns.

At Femme Next Generation Women’s Care in Thousand Oaks, California, our physicians believe that Jeuveau offers some distinct situational advantages over BOTOX.

What is Jeuveau?

Jeuveau is considered as the newest neuromodulator specifically for cosmetic use and has coined the phrase #newtox. In 2019, it became FDA approved, the last injectable to do so in over ten years. Compared to other neuromodulator injectables, Jeuveau has created ‘Hi-Pure’ technology. This helps Jeuveau to work efficiently by interrupting the communication between the nerve ending and its targeted muscle.

Patients can see results in as little as 2-3 days. Jeuveau positions itself as an injector for younger persons, namely millennials, who want to stop the early signs of aging. It’s commonly used to reduce forehead and frown lines, crow’s feet, bunny lines, and other fine lines and wrinkle

What are the similarities between Jeuveau and BOTOX?

Jeuveau and BOTOX have a few similarities, especially in their application. Both FDA-approved neuromodulators made from botulinum toxin type A. Jeuveau and BOTOX are useful in correcting and enhancing facial lines and wrinkles. Among other cosmetic injectables, these two have proven track records of efficacy. In fact, people who are fans of injectables use Jeuveau and BOTOX interchangeably to achieve maximum results.

Both BOTOX and Jeuveau have the same common yet manageable side effects when it comes to safety. Experts conducted a series of research and clinical trials before coming to the market to rule out any harmful effects.

Although safe, it is still essential to check its suitability with the body. Some people may be either allergic or immune to ingredients in neuromodulators. Before trying any procedure, speak with your dermatologist, who can do a health check to determine if they are right for you.

To get the same desired end result, the cost is about the same for both.

What are the differences between Jeuveau and BOTOX?

While it’s hard to find differences between the two injectables (they contain the same active ingredient), there are a few you should know before choosing the right one for you.

BOTOX and Jeuveau use the same ingredients, but the formulation differs. Jeuveau’s Hi-Pure technology takes added steps to remove dangerous proteins and to aid with absorption. This makes the product potentially safer, faster-acting, and longer-lasting.
