When home skin products aren't effective but you aren't ready for surgery, learn more about nonsurgical treatments to rejuvenate the skin like microneedling. The Medical Aesthetics team at Femme Next Generation Women’s Care in Thousand Oaks, CA is pleased to offer microneedling (also known as collagen induction therapy).
What is microneedling?
Also known as collagen induction therapy, microneedling is a nonsurgical treatment to rejuvenate your skin. This skin is partially made up of collagen, a fibrous protein that helps keep your skin supple, smooth, and tight. As you age, your collagen breaks down and diminishes, making your skin less elastic and thinner. Microneedling consists of a small pen-like machine that penetrates into the skin to cause micro-injuries. These micro-injuries cause your skin to increase its collagen production and generate new skin cell growth. Once healed, your skin looks firmer, brighter, and healthier.
Are all microneedling devices the same?
No. Femme uses the best product on the market called the SkinPen. The SkinPen is the first and only microneedling device in the world cleared by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. It has been clinically shown to safely and effectively treat facial acne scars for ages 22 and up with 90% of subjects in the clinical trial recommending the treatment to family and friends. FDA clearance not only ensures the effectiveness of the treatment, but also guarantees the unparalleled quality of the product, unlike with some of the unregulated products on the market.
Can I combine other treatments with microneedling?
During the microneedling process, channels are created in your skin that make it easier for treatments to penetrate the deeper layers. This is why microneedling is frequently combined with other treatments, like vitamin-rich serums or platelet-rich plasma (PRP). Microneedling with PRP is often called the vampire facial. During your consultation, we can explain what treatments may be performed along with microneedling and which best fit your skin goals.
How many treatments are recommended for optimal results?
A patient will typically receive between 3 - 6 sessions to achieve the best results. As with any treatment, the number of treatments you need will depend on your skin's condition and your goals. Microneedling can be performed every 4 – 6 weeks as needed. During your consultation, our team can estimate how many treatments you will need based on your skin and goals. Once you have reached your goal, we generally recommend getting maintenance treatments about twice a year.
